End of the school year rush!

It's happening again....... 3rd quarter report cards go home next week! Every year around this time I am flooded with calls from desperate parents, some of whom are asking for an end of the year miracle, some of whom I will fit nicely into the one or two hours I have left in my schedule, and some of whom I will sadly have to turn away. This is part of the reason I have started this group the Triangle Tutor connection. I like the fact that I have a small group of friends who are tutors that I can refer to when my end of the year schedule is full.

As I said, it happens every year at this time.... I don't know why parents wait until the end of the year to find a tutor. I can understand when the student who has been doing fairly well all semester has his midterm or final coming up next week and Mom and Dad need a tutor for just a few sessions to get ready for the big test. That makes sense, but it is often very difficult to start with a student at the end of April and expect him/her to move from an F to a B in just 4 short weeks! I didn't say impossible, just unlikely.

So that leads us to my intentions for writing this page...... please, please, please get help NOW, or even better yesterday! When is the best time to find a tutor? BEFORE, problems come up. Be as proactive as possible. The longer and longer you wait, the further and further behind your child will become, not to mention declining self-confidence. As I'm sure you've seen already (or you wouldn't be reading this) the longer and longer you wait, the more and more your son or daughter will lose confidence in themselves and begin to doubt their academic abilities.

Parents, please, please get help if you sense the slightest sign of a problem. Not only will you be proactive but equally important you will be securing a spot in your tutors schedule! It's April, and I have been receiving at least 4 phone calls each week. I'd say by next week my schedule will be fully booked and I will have to start turning parents away very soon.

I urge each of you reading this page to encourage those you know with children, don't wait until the END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR to get help. Get started early at the beginning of the school year. You'll prevent a lot of frustration, worry, and possibly regret.
